University Information
Technology Services (UITS) home page for student computing resources. Here
are answers to questions about e-mail accounts, World Wide Web access, creating
your own home pages and listservs and alot more. Great starting point for
the computer novice, and a valuable resource for more experienced users as
well. In particular check out the Online Documentation
section for connectivity and other common questions. Also check out their
help desk FAQ.
Comprehensive listing
of software available to IU faculty, staff and students. Includes platform
availability, Y2K compliance and how the software is distributed (electronically,
on CD-ROM, etc). A related resource is the IUWare
CD homepage which lists the most recent version of the CD-ROM containing
most of the basic software students will want to have access to (not the
Microsoft
or Corel programs).
Links to information
about various computing questions involving the medical library (ethernet lines for
laptops, telnet help, accessing ISI databases like Science Citation Index, accessing the Merck Manual,
etc).
A fairly comprehensive
list of web-based tutorials on general computer and Internet topics (operating
systems, common applications, different Internet protocols, programming, etc).
This page will be devoted to basic resources to make working in a Wintel world a little
easier.
Don't forget, the special
modem pool for medical students is at (317) 274-7449. There are 96 lines available
exclusively for your use. These lines should also help take some of the load
off the regular IUPUI modem pool. You can also call 274-5619 if you only need
to get to resources here on campus.
Submit a computing question
If you have a basic question
about computers, connectivity or the Internet feel free to submit it here. We
will answer your question as soon as possible. Please be as specific as possible
and let us know if you have any deadlines (other than "ASAP"). This form is primarily
meant to be used by medical students at IUSM, though we will accept questions
from other related people (please, no questions from outside of the IU system).
UITS administers
most of the computing hardware and passwords on campus, so if your question involves
use of any computer lab other than the MERP
Learning Resources Center or questions about your account itself please contact
them directly at 274-HELP or check out their web pages. Good luck!
Medical Student Web Pages and HTML Information
Here are some home pages
created by medical students. If you are interested in creating your own web
page check out these resources:
If all else fails contact UITS at 274-4357 (274-HELP). The Medical Library also offers
introductory courses on HTML, but class sizes are limited. Click here,
email the Reference Department
or call us at 274-7185 for details.
