Exporting References from Ovid to EndNote, Reference Manager or ProCite

NOTE: Ovid's Direct Export format is compatible with EndNote version 4 or higher, ProCite version 3 or higher, or Reference Manager version 7 or higher. This only works if you have one of the packages listed above already installed, and have the library/file to which you are importing already created. It is not possible to create a new library/file "on the fly." If using ProCite, you may need to first download an Export Plug-in from the ProCite website (http://www.procite.com/support/webcap.asp).

  • Do your search in the selected Ovid database.

  • Scroll down to browse through the first ten references. Click on Next Citations to continue browsing.

  • Select the reference(s) to export by clicking in the box(es) to the left of the reference(s).

  • Scroll down to the Citation Manager menu at the bottom of the reference display.

  • Under Citations, choose Selected Citations.

  • Under Fields, choose Complete Reference.

  • Under Citation Format, choose Direct Export. Do NOT check Include Search History.

  • Under Action, click on Save.

Your EndNote/ProCite/Reference Manager software will automatically open and prompt you to select a library/file into which the references will be imported, and in some cases, an import filter. When the appropriate choices have been made, the software imports them with no further intervention. When you close the library window, the revised library will be saved.

For further assistance with EndNote version 4, see the interactive EndNote tutorial at http://www.isiresearchsoft.com/en/help/EN4tutorial.htm (requires Shockwave plug-in).

Exporting References from Web of Science to EndNote, Reference Manager or Procite

NOTE: The Web of Science Export feature should be compatible with EndNote version 4 or higher, ProCite version 3 or higher, or Reference Manager version 7 or higher. This only works if you have one of the packages listed above already installed, and have the library/file to which you are importing already created. It is not possible to create a new library/file "on the fly." If using ProCite, you may need to first download an Export Plug-in from the ProCite website (http://www.procite.com/support/webcap.asp).

  • Do a General or Cited Reference search in Web of Science

  • Mark the record(s) to export by clicking in the box(es) to the left of the record(s)

  • Click on the Marked List button

  • Select additional fields to include (if any) by clicking in the appropriate boxes

  • Click on the Export to Reference Software button

Your EndNote/ProCite/Reference Manager software will automatically open and prompt you to select a library/file into which the references will be imported, then imports them with no further intervention. When you close the library window, the revised library will be saved.
