| 1. How do I access medical library journal subscriptions from off-campus? |
Most Indiana University School of Medicine Library electronic resources require authentication (the same
username and password that you use to access your University e-mail account).
See http://www.medlib.iupui.edu/techsupport/ntdom.html for more information.
Go to the Medical Libraries' homepage and click on the Online Resources A-Z link.
This is currently
the best way to locate medical library electronic journal subscriptions.
The IUPUI University Libraries Library Databases & Electronic Journals includes non-health related titles.
Also, electronic journal availability is often indicated in the Indiana University Libraries online catalog IUCAT.
Print title availability is noted here as well.
Those individuals not eligible for a University Computing account may be interested in the
Medical Library's Affiliates program.

Tips:
|
- We also recommend using IU's Virtual Private Network to minimize journal access problems.
Information is available at: http://kb.indiana.edu/data/ajrq.html?cust=012695.46985.131
- Electronic access to many journals started in the mid-1990s. While there are exceptions, most
pre-1995 articles will not be available electronically.
- Access to journal supplements or other special issues can be problematic – they are not always
included as part of the electronic journal subscription.
- Journal articles that are not available on the Indianapolis Campus may be obtained via the
Medical Library's document delivery service.
- Finally, some journal publishers impose an embargo (text of articles not released until a publisher
specified amount of time has passed (usually one year, but it may be longer)).

| 2. How do I know what journals are available electronically and for what years? |

| 3. Why doesn't the library have electronic access to Cell? |
The Indiana University School of Medicine Libraries recognizes the importance of the journal Cell to
IU researchers.
The library subscribes to Cell in the print version and it is located on the 2nd floor.
The budget did not allow us to subscribe to the electronic versions of Cell and its associated group of titles for
calendar year 2004: Immunity, Molecular Cell, Developmental Cell, Cancer Cell, Neuron,
Current Biology, Structure, Chemistry and Biology. The publisher prices were: $9,050 for Cell alone,
$20,500 for Cell and its associated journals.
