New Faculty

Matthew C. Aalsma, who received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Taylor University in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics after completing a fellowship in psychology here.

Charles R. Austgen, who received his M.D. from IU in 1998, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesia in the Department of Anesthesia. He recently completed his anesthesiology residency here.

Sunil Badve, who received his M.B.,B.S. from Bombay University, India, in 1982, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Medicine. Prior to joining IU, he was a member of the faculty at Northwestern University where he served as Co-Director, Pathology Core, Breast SPORE, and Co-Director, Pathology Coordinating Office, ECOG.

Navin Bansal, who received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1988, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Radiology. Before joining IU, he was a research associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania.

Anjan S. Batra, who received his M.D. from Ohio State University in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. He recently completed a fellowship in cardiology/EP at the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles.

Meher M. Battiwalla, who received her M.B.,B.S. from the University of Calcutta, India, in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty she completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism here.

Steven D. Billings, who received his M.D. from IU in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and Dermatology. He recently completed a fellowship here in dermatopathology.

Sabah D. Butty, who received his M.D. from Wayne State University in 1994, has been appointd Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology. He recently completed a fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of Virginia.

Thomas Casciani, who received his M.D. from the University of Rochester in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology. Prior to joining IU, he served on the faculty in vascular and interventional radiology at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Thomas J. Cunningham, who received his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Since completing a residency at IU, he has been a visiting faculty member here.

Magdalena B. Czader, who received her M.D. from Karol Marcinkowski University, Poland, in 1990, and her Ph.D. in Pathology from the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. She recently completed a hematopathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.

Mithilesh K. Das, who received his M.B.,B.S. from Rajendra Medical College, India, in 1982, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Prior to joining IU, he completed a fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell University Medical Center.

Timothy R. DeGrado, who received his Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988, has been appointed Professor in the Department of Radiology. He spent the last decade on the faculty at Duke University in the area of pharmacology and cancer biology.

Jonathan A. Fridell, who received his M.D.,C.M. from McGill University, Canada, in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery. He recently completed a fellowship in clinical transplant surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.

Qing Gao, who received her Ph.D. in Genetics from Texas A&M University in 1996 and her M.D. from Shandong Medical University, China, in 1988, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medical & Molecular Genetics in the Department of Medical & Molecular Genetics. She previously completed a fellowship in molecular genetics services here.

Waqas S. Ghumman, who received his M.D. from IU in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty, he completed a fellowship in cardiology here.

Meredith R. Golomb, who received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology. She recently completed a fellowship in pediatric stroke at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.

Andrew J. Grein, who received his M.D. from IU in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. He recently completed a neonatology fellowship here.

Omar M. Hamoui, who received his M.D. from American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty, he completed a cardiology fellowship here.

Heather D. Hartsell, who received her Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta, Canada, in 1982, has been appointed Associate Professor of Physical Therapy in the School of Allied Health Sciences. Most recently she served on the faculty of the University of Iowa.

Amy J. Hatfield, who received her M.L.S. from IU in 2000, has been appointed Assistant Librarian, Systems, in the Ruth Lilly Medical Library. She has worked as a technology consultant/specialist and also completed a summer internship in the medical library.

Dawn P. Haut, who received her M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, in 1990, has been appointed Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. She has been working as medical director and staff pediatrician at the Infant Welfare Society in Chicago.

Paul R. Haut, who received his M.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1990, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. He will direct pediatric stem cell transplantation at Riley Hospital. He was previously on the pediatrics faculty at Northwestern University.

Jill A. Hollingsworth, who received her M.D. from IU in 1998, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She recently completed her ob/gyn residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Holli A. Horak, who received her M.D. from Ohio State University in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology in the Department of Neurology. She has been a visiting lecturer here since completing a fellowship at IU in electrophysiology.

Derek M. Houston, who received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology from Johns Hopkins University in 2000, has been appointed Philip F. Holton Scholar in Otology and Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. He has been at IU as a NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellow since obtaining his doctorate.

David A. Ingram, Jr., who received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics. He recently completed a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at IU.

Tina D. Jackson, who received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1997, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She has been here on a visiting basis since completing her ob/gyn residency at Duke University.

Brandon T. Kibby, who received his D.O. from Des Moines University in 1997, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesia in the Department of Anesthesia. Prior to joining the faculty he completed a fellowship here in pediatric anesthesia.

Abigail F. Klemsz, who received her Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology in 1991 and her M.D. in 1994, both from IU, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. She has most recently worked part-time at St. Vincent Primary Care Center and also here.

Michelle A. Koley, who received her M.A. in Audiology from IU in 1999, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Audiology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. She previously served as a clinical audiologist for Clarian Health Partners, Inc.

Raymond L. Konger, who received his M.D. from IU in 1992, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Prior to returning to IU, he was a dermatology faculty member at the University of Rochester.

Alan P. Ladd, who received his M.D. from IU in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery. He recently completed a pediatric surgery fellowship here.

Kirstan K. Meldrum, who received her M.D. from the University of Colorado in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology. Prior to joining IU, she completed a fellowship in pediatric urology at Johns Hopkins University.

R. Christopher Miyamoto, who received his M.D. from IU in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics with a secondary appointment in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. He recently completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School.

Patrick O. Monahan, who received his Ph.D. in Measurement and Statistics from the University of Iowa in 2002, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Biostatistics.

Mary E. Olguin, who received her M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1984, has been appointed Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. Most recently she has worked as locum tenens and as a part-time faculty member with IU. She is based at Women's Hospital in Newburgh.

Dennis P. O'Malley, who received his M.D. from Loma Linda University in 1997, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. He recently completed a hematopathology fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Laura A. Pacholski, who received her M.D. from IU in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. Since completing a residency here, she has been a visiting lecturer in the department.

Victoria Palmer-Smith, who received her M.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She previously served as assistant professor and assistant residency director in emergency medicine at Emory University.

Leonard F. Peruski, who received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Michigan in 1988, has been appointed Associate Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at the Northwest Center for Medical Education. His most recent position was as Chief Scientist and Deputy Director, Biological Defense Research Directorate, Naval Medical Research Center, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Lisa J. Pompos, who received her D.V.M. from Michigan State University in 1999, has been appointed Assistant Scientist in the Laboratory Animal Resource Center. She completed a fellowship in laboratory animal medicine at the University of Missouri.

Kathleen A. Prag, who received her M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1994, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Since completing a fellowship here in nephrology, she has been serving as a visiting lecturer.

Joseph A. Prahlow, who received his M.D. from IU in 1990, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, South Bend Center for Medical Education. He is a member of the South Bend Medical Foundation and was previously a medical examiner in Dallas, Texas.

Deanna R. Reinoso, who received her M.D. from IU in 1999, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. She recently completed her residency here and will be a member of IUMG-PC.

Romil Saxena, who received her M.B.,B.S. from Bombay University, India, in 1983, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. She recently served on the faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Javier F. Sevilla, who received his M.D. from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras in 1993, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine. He is completing a fellowship in underserved medicine.

Jeffrey L. Sperring, who received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. He has been in private practice in New Castle and has served in the United States Naval Reserve.

Amy E. Stromwall, who received her M.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1999, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She recently completed her residency here.

Chandru P. Sundaram, who received his M.B.,B.S. from Madras Medical College, India, in 1985, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Urology. He was previously on the faculty at Washington University where he directed the fellowship program in minimally invasive urology.

Ilana J. Torine, who received her D.O. from Nova Southeastern University in 1995, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics after completing a neonatalogy fellowship here.

Laurence E. Walsh, who received his M.D. from IU in 1987, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology and of Clinical Medical & Molecular Genetics in the Departments of Neurology and Medical & Molecular Genetics. He has been serving as a visiting faculty member and heads up the section of pediatric neurology.

Andrea D. Weist, who received her M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1996, has been appointed Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. She recently completed a fellowship at IU in pediatric pulmonology.

Hwan Y. Yoo, who received his M.D. and his Ph.D. in Surgical Endocrinology from Seoul National University, Korea, in 1985 and 1995 respectively, has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine. Prior to joining IU, he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology/hepatology at Johns Hopkins University.
