Classes

The Medical Library is the primary information resource for the Indiana University School of Medicine and the School of Nursing (Graduate Programs), and Wishard Hospital. It is also a primary resource for the Indiana University School of Health and Rehabilitation Services. Faculty of these schools may wish to contact their Medical Library Faculty Liaison about developing a class tailored to a particular specialty or specific curriculum, or assisting with their research requirements. A contact list of Medical Library Liaisons is available on the Library Liaison Contacts page.

EndNote

Getting Started with EndNote X2 and MS Word 2007

Getting Started with EndNote X2 and MS Word 2007 workshops are tailored for the health sciences by IUSM medical librarians and will include using EndNote X2's significant new features. Classes will cover importing references from Ovid Medline and PubMed, inserting citations into MS Word 2007 (which now has a tab instead of a toolbar), changing reference citation styles, and organizing PDF attachments to EndNote references. Say goodbye to all those photocopies occupying bulging file cabinets!

2009 Schedule

Due to the renovation of the IUSM Medical Library 2nd and 3rd floors, all 2009 EndNote workshops will be in the Medical Sciences Building computer lab, MS B016A.

  • November 17, Tuesday 10:30-Noon
  • December 16, Wednesday 2:30-4:00pm

For more information, to set up a special workshop for your unit, or to register, please contact IUSM Librarian, Carole Gall at cfgall@iupui.edu or 274-1411 or Doug Bartlow at jbartlo@iupui.edu or 274-5077.

Getting Started With PowerPoint

PowerPoint is the number one program used worldwide for presentations, slide shows and handouts.  It is also one of the easiest programs to learn and master.  With a little training anyone can create effective presentations that look like they were created by a professional designer. PowerPoint's simplicity can save time for users who otherwise would have used traditional slides, blackboards and overhead projectors.  This Medical Library course offers a beginning user a way to "break the ice" and start using PowerPoint.  There is no charge for students, faculty and staff.

This class covers basic presentation development, with all the core operations needed to manage PowerPoint.  Students will learn the use of basic visual communication skills, presentation themes, enter and edit text, format bullets and numbers, working with shapes and figures, using graphic images, transitions, slide show view, printing presentations and saving and packaging presentations.

  • November 23, Monday, 2:00 - 3:30pm

For more information, to set up a special workshop for your unit, or to register, please contact IUSM Library, Doug Bartlow at jbartlo@iupui.edu or 274-5077.
